Happy New Year from Duke Women’s Tennis! We hope your January is off to a great start! We are currently in the Bahamas preparing for our first match of the 2019 season. On Saturday, January 12th, we play a very talented Oklahoma State team, which is ranked no. 9. Not only is this the first NCAA tennis match played internationally, it is also our program’s first international trip!
Our team is starting the year ranked no. 4 in the preseason rankings. After a strong fall, we have four singles players ranked within the top 60 players in the nation – freshman Maria Mateas comes in at no.8, junior Meible Chi at no.10, sophomore Kelly Chen at no. 37 and senior Kaitlyn McCarthy rounds out the Blue Devils in the rankings at no. 58.
Once again, we face a very challenging conference and non-conference schedule. The ACC has two teams in the top five and seven teams in the top 25. As a program, we have always prided ourselves on playing a tough schedule to prepare us for the NCAA tournament in May.
Every year, one of our goals is to make Ambler Tennis Stadium and the Sheffield Tennis Center one of the toughest places to play in the country. We would love to have you back on campus to cheer on our team! We have another phenomenal group of student-athletes this year, who are very talented, focused, driven and who play for one another. Last week, our freshman class doubled in size as we welcomed, Margaryta Bilokin, who is from New Canaan, Connecticut, to Duke.
Thanks for all you do to make Duke Women’s Tennis one of the best programs in the country! Go Duke!!!
