Fall Wrap: “It has been a solid fall,” head coach Ramsey Smith said. “We have had good results. I feel like we missed out on a couple opportunities here and there, but overall, we’re getting better. Our main focus was holding our serve easier and improving our serves. Across the board we’ve absolutely done that. We’ve taken some steps forward, but need to keep working.”
This fall in singles, Furman is 7-2 and Stachowiak is 7-3. Both are 5-4 in doubles.
In their last outings, Furman, who is ranked No. 44 in the Oracle/ITA preseason ledger, and Stachowiak each turned in a 2-1 singles record at the ITA Carolina Regional, advancing to the Round of 32. In doubles at the regional, Furman and redshirt junior Nicolas Alvarez advanced to the quarterfinals while Stachowiak and freshman Sean Sculley moved to the semifinals.
“It is always nice having that year of experience under your belt,” Smith said of his two sophomores competing this weekend. “Spencer and Nick are physically a lot stronger. They have both made a lot of progress this summer and fall. The neat thing is I think both of them are playing their best tennis right now. It’s a great opportunity with the last competitive weekend of the fall to finish strong. I’m really looking forward to watching them play.”
