Stellar Fall Season Duke had one of its strongest fall seasons in recent memory to close out 2017. The Blue Devils’ efforts were headlined by juniors Ellyse Hamlin and Kaitlyn McCarthy winning the doubles title at the Riviera/ITA AllAmerican Championships in October. The title was Duke’s first grand slam title since Mallory Cecil won the NCAA Singles Championship in 2009. Senior Samantha Harris and freshman Kelly Chen reached the doubles semifinals of both the Riviera and the ITA Fall National Championships. For their performances, Harris and Chen were ranked No. 1 in the ITA Doubles Rankings while McCarthy and Hamlin were right behind them in the second spot. It was the first No. 1 ranking for Duke since Cecil was the top singles player in the final poll of the 2009 season and the first time a single school had the two top ranked doubles pairs since Stanford did in 1990. On the singles side, Harris reached the final of both the ITA Carolina Regional Championships and the ITA Fall National Championships. She led the team with 16 singles wins in the fall. Duke finished with four players ranked inside the ITA top 100 heading into the spring campaign.
